SOLD OUT: Debut 2020 NFBKC Post-Season Contest
Posted: Tue Jun 09, 2020 2:43 pm
While the NBA regular season ended early because of coronavirus, the NBA post-season is scheduled to resume on July 31st. The NBA and the NBAPA have agreed to a 22-team play-in tournament that will have 16 teams seeded according to record after the play-in rounds, notwithstanding conference affiliation. So 13 Western Conference teams have made the field of 22 teams, compared to 9 Eastern Conference teams.
We think this is going to be a popular post-season for the NBA and we can't wait for the games to get started. And we're not just saying that because we're Milwaukee Bucks fans (okay, Tom and myself are Bucks fans!!). We think this is a great format that could run the Championship Round into October with some great stars going head-to-head. Let's do this.
As a result, we've come up with an NFBKC Post-Season Hold 'Em Contest that will debut this year and could be around for a long, long time. In fact, we think this scoring system that we will use for this contest could be used as a Best Ball hoops format starting in 2020-21. Stay tuned.
This is a points-based scoring system that gives points based on seven scoring categories. They include:
2-Point Field Goals Made = 2 points
3-Point Field Goals Made = 3 points
Free Throws Made = 1 point
Assists = 1.5 points
Steals = 2 points
Blocked Shots = 3 points
Total Rebounds = 1.5 points
Now comes the fun part:
Once the post-season is whittled down to 16 teams, NFBKC owners have to compile a 16-man roster for Round 1 consisting of ONLY 1 PLAYER from each NBA team. You can pick any player you want from any team, but you just get one player. And every point that all 16 players accumulate from all of the Round 1 games are added to your team total. Easy enough, right? There is no draft, you just pick one player from each NBA team.
After Round 1, every NFBKC team will have lost 8 players, with 8 players advancing to the next round. In Round 2, NFBKC owners replace players they've lost with new players, but you can only have 2 players from each of the 8 remaining NBA teams for a roster of 16 players. Every player you kept from Round 1 into Round 2 will earn 2 times their points in this round. So if you had LeBron James on your roster in Round 1 and the Lakers won in Round 1, you'll earn 2x for every point he earns in Round 2. The 8 other players you just added for Round 2 earns 1x their points.
This is a multiplying hold 'em contest, so the longer they are on your roster the more points they earn. Get it?
In Round 3, rosters are reduced to 12 players per NFBKC team as we're now down to 4 NBA teams. You can have a max of 3 players per NBA team to fill out your NFBKC roster and any player you had on your roster since Round 1 will earn 3x in Round 3, while players that you've had on your roster since Round 2 will earn 2x. New players added in this round will earn 1x their points.
And in Round 4, NFBKC rosters will be reduced to 8 players as there are only 2 NBA teams left. NFBKC rosters will be limited to 4 players per NBA team and those players will earn 4x their points if they've been on a roster since Round 1, 3x if on a roster since Round 2 and 2x if on a roster since Round 3. Players added for the first time in Round 4 will earn 1x in this round.
The NFBKC team with the most points will win the $10,000 grand prize and we'll pay down 10 spots. All of the Rules and Prizes can be found here:
https://nfc.shgn.com/rules_new/659
Prizes are based on only 200 teams as we launch this new contest. Again, next year an NFBKC Best Ball Championship will likely use this same scoring system as we introduce Best Ball to hoops for the first time.
Cost of entry is $150 per team and rosters will be finalized once the NBA finishes the play-in portion of the tournament to get down to 16 teams. As teams are eliminated from the 22-team field, those players will be taken out of the player pool. Rosters will be finalized just before the first tipoff of the Round 1 NBA games for the field of 16 teams.
In Rounds 1 and 2, here are the roster requirements:
